OZEE 7’S


Coinciding with our objective, O Zee 7’s was the birth of Seven a side Cricket, Soccer & touch Rugby tournament between Old Boys of Sri Lankan Schools who are residing in Qatar. This was conducted with the participation of more than 10 prominent Sri Lankan Schools Old Boys Association. The objective of this event is to bring out more interaction with Sri Lankans residing in the State of Qatar through a mode of Sports. The inaugural tournament was held in The year 2010 & it continued till 2012. It was a Sports carnival where the whole Sri Lankan community gathered to participate in the event. It was an entertaining day for the whole family.


In the year 2014, organizing committee decided to change the direction towards Soccer one of the favorite sports in Sri Lankan Sports arena, considering a large amount of request made by the Sri Lankan community soccer fans. The title of the tournament was renamed as OZee Soccer Sevens, where Prominent 16 Sri Lankan Soccer team battled for the crown. It was another grand success & it brought much appreciation to OBA for the magnificent & excellent job done by the Organizing team.















Skills for the Future 

Zahira College Colombo Old Boys Association Qatar organized its inaugural workshop for professionals “Skills for the Future” was held on 6th June 2016 at Hotel Plaza Inn ended with great success.  This workshop targeted towards Sri Lankan professionals who reside in the state of Qatar & around one hundred Sri Lankans participated. Training programs have been in high demand in Qatar amongst many Sri Lankans to enhance their skills and knowledge. 
 
This workshop was be conducted by a well-known corporate trainer in Sri Lanka Mr. Munshif Hussain- founder & Chief Executive of Life Skills and Mr. Reyaz Jeffrey- Chief Executive officer, Amana Takaful Life- Sri Lanka.  “Hi-Tech vs Hi-Touch (work-life balancing) & your career; Making best out of it” are the topic which was presented by respective presenters.

Doha Cricket Sixes – DCS

This was the first project organized by OBA Qatar. The main objective of this cricket tournament was to foster social intercourse & fellowship among Old Zahirians as well Sri Lankan s residing in Qatar & raise funds for the upcoming projects. prominent Sri Lankan cricket clubs Participated in the tournament which was knock out basis, This was the first six a side cricket tournament in Qatar, where cash awards & other fabulous prizes were given to winners & first ever cricket tournament played under lights. DCS has earned OBA Qatar much expected popularity among the Sri Lankans in Qatar. This event was successfully conducted consecutively in 2010, 2011 & 2012.

Objective: to build a Social Rapport among Sri Lankan Community who is Residing in Qatar.

Participants : Prominent Sri Lankan Cricket Clubs in Qatar.






Serendib Bowling Championship – SBC

Serendib Bowling Championship is this is the 1st ever bowling tournament organizer for Sri Lankans who is residing in the State of Qatar. The main objective of this event is to build good rapport & social intercourse between Sri Lankans who is residing in Qatar. After a successful inaugural event in 2013, the 2nd Edition of Sri Lankan community open bowling tournament was successfully held on 16th May 2014 in Qatar Bowling Centre, Doha, and the State of Qatar. Due to the popular demand 2nd edition was an extended version of 1st edition as the number of teams were doubled up to a total of 32 male teams, 4 female & 30 children’s participated.

More than 500 Sri Lankans residing in Doha attended the event which includes Special invitees from Sri Lankan Embassy in Qatar, prominent Sri Lankan school OBA’s,  Sri Lankan associations’ teams & Sri Lankan clubs in Doha, organizing committee members, our association members, sponsors, well-wishers and their family members. Zahirians' Night

Introduction :
This is the occasion where annual general meeting & fellowship dinner is organized for the fellow Zahirians who reside in Qatar. this has brought great opportunity to gather many Zahirians under one roof with their families. Zahirians Night is one of the annual calendar events where Zahirians Talent are displayed(such as Drama & clothing Display) & a stage to recognize great Zahirians who have achieved a great milestone. Annual Ifthar Program

OBA organized it's Annual Ifthar program for All the Zahirians & to their family in the holy month of Ramadan More than 100 Zahirians & well-wishers Attends this great moment. Every year an Islamic Scholar present a lecture on the specialty of the Holy month of Ramadan. further, this creates us a platform to raise fund for the OBA Qatar Scholarship program which covers the sponsorship of Talented & deserving students to excel their studies without any problem. This will cover their school fees, stationery & clothing. Further in 2014, as commemoration of Zahira OBA Qatar 5th year celebration the organizing committee organized Islamic Quiz competition and Qiraath, essay and Azaan competition for the children’s’ of OBA Members’.

Zahira OBA Qatar 5th Year commemoration -Qiraath, Essay & Azaan Competitions.

OBA Qatar celebrates its 5th year anniversary in the year 2014, as a commemoration of the celebration OBA Qatar organized Qiraath, Essay & Azaan competition for the children’s of the OBA members, this was held 27th June 2014 at Stafford Sri Lankan school Doha. This was another successful project which all the children’s participated with a great interest. Around 25 children have participated and all of them were distributed with gifts. Further, there was a Quiz competition conducted via OBA Qatar Face book page for week commencing from 22nd June to 1 July 2014. Many members actively participated which it was not only a competition where it was an opportunity to refresh our knowledge as well. Prize distribution was held at the annual Ifthar program which was held on 3rd July 2014.


Teachers Felicitation

Teachers are the wealth of our school, who are giving a great deal of knowledge our students. In order to appreciate their splendid service, it’s our responsibility to show our gratitude to them by felicitating their service. In order to give our share towards this worthy causes, OBA Qatar Participated as the Bronze Sponsor by Sponsoring Rs 160,000 to the Teachers Felicitation Night in 2010, 2012 & 2014. The event was organized by Past prefects Association and its main objective is to motivate the teachers of the college to provide quality education to the students to excel in their education and to be outstanding in their college activities & creating healthy competition among teachers for quality delivery which will benefit the students. A total of 17 & 20 teachers were felicitated with a cash amount of Rs 25000 each & other prizes in respective years.

Members Day

Members’ day is an annual calendar event of OBA Qatar. In line with our objective of 1st Members, the day was held in early 2011 in the intercontinental beach with a participation of members and their families. Members day is most important event in the OBA Calendar, that is due to it creates an opportunity to all the Zahirians’ in Qatar to remember their school days & meet their fellow batch mates and the fellow Zahirians’. This day is full of fun and entertainment for the whole family. In 2014 OBA organized camping night “Ozee winter camp” which brought the members to enjoy a new experience of camping.

Sponsoring Sri Lankan Embassy Ifthar

In line with OBA Qatar’s one of main objective to socially interact with Sri Lankan Community, we have donated QR.1,000/- for the Annual Ifthar Program 2011, 2012,2013 & 204 of Sri Lankan Embassy in the State of Qatar. this event is organized by the Sri Lankan Embassy to Muslim brothers who reside in Qatar.


Sponsoring “Zahira Hockey Sevens 2012”

As part of helping to Develop Hockey in College, OBA Qatar has sponsored RS.25,000/- for the said event which was organized by Old Zahira Hockey Association in the year 2012.

 

Rewarding for the students who obtained best Advanced Level Results

In line Motivating our Students to get good results in Government examination, OBA Qatar took part in Group of 80’s project of recognizing students who have obtained best results at Advanced Level examination in the year 2011 and donated a brand new lap towards this project.

Doha Crescent- Zahira OBA Qatar News Letter.

“Doha Crescent” was the official newsletter which was published by Zahira College Colombo Old Boys Association Qatar. This includes all the activities and events which were held in the year, further, this includes, events and happenings of College, Colombo OBA, other overseas OBA, Sri Lankan Embassy, other Sri Lankan school OBA in Qatar & Kiddies corner which gives an opportunity to publish members children’s’ articles in a publication. In the year 2013 newsletter was published as an E-newsletter.
